When I grow up

When I grow up, I want to be a dancer. I want to let the music into my soul, and let my body decide how it wants to move. I want to wear costumes of heavy silk, and dance before packed audiences.

I also want to be a scientist. I want to invent new machines, and discover new medicines. I want to wipe out hunger, poverty and disease.

I have many dreams, but I do not know what I will become. What I do know is that I do not want to be invisible like my mother and my sisters.

This Drabble and many more are a part of the Annual Advent Calendar at the Burrow.

A drabble a day, everyday to provide some respite from the madness that is December. Do check it out

If only the dreams of every girl could come true. Wouldn't it be a wonderful world?

May she achieve at least one of those...

Aw, what an evocative little story, so much in so few words. The photograph is beautiful too - what a precious little girl.

Words to live by. I hope I can make my mark on the world as well.

Makes one wish one could make a difference to her!

For women who have always had the opportunities, they take for granted. For those who are invisible... they hear the heartbreak in the picture. There is more heartbreak in the world then opportunity.

Wow - that last line is a killer! I hope she gets her wish - no one should be invisible!

@ Varun - thank you. And thanks for dropping by.

@ Leigh- which reminds me, I still owe you a photograph. Bad Dobby :-(

@ Oddyoddyo13 - I would hate to be. Should have clarified that this was fiction.

@ Kittie - I knew you would. I am sure you have met many who are.

@ Debra - it would indeed. All the dreams of all the kids. Or at least all the dreams they are willing to work towards.

@ Alex - that's my wish too.

@ Drama Queen - thank you so much

@ Guinevere - thank you. But when will people figure out that I say things in a few words, because I do not have more than those.

@ Clarissa - you already have. There are people's lives you have touched and enriched. You could do more, but you have already done what you say you want too do.

@ Diane - to know that someone is cheering them on, and that someone cares. I think even that may be enough for them.

@ Danette - much more heartbreak than opportunity, unfortunately. Which is such a waste, isn't it?

@ Jemi - everytime I encounter women like her, I thank my stars that I had the opportunity to do whatever it is I wanted to.

@ Ellen - thank you. And yes, we do want to do so many diverse things, don't we?

I've been doing a lot of reading about invisible women lately... my heart breaks for them. This drabble is so poignant, and sadly, full of truth.

@ Faith- it is really sad, isn't it?

@ SueAnn - that I am not. But I wish no woman was.
